Bearwood Community in Action

Bearwood Community in Action was set up in 1999 to provide Bearwood Residents with the opportunity to have influence on matters which affected them.

This website is provided on behalf of this committee and the residents of Bearwood to offer advice on all services, groups, events and organisations taking place in Bearwood.

Constitution

1. Name

The name of the organisation shall be Bearwood Community in Action.

2. Objectives

The objectives of the organisation shall be to bring together residents of the estate to set up facilities and run a wide range of community activities on the estate for the benefit of local residents of all ages and to promote the interests and needs of the Bearwood community with the statutory authorities.

3. Membership

The organisation is formed on the self-help principle and membership is open to all residents of Bearwood. Professionals (e.g. police, youth workers, health visitors, social workers, teachers etc.) working on the estate may be co-opted to support the group but without voting powers.

4. Management

The organisation shall have the power to elect the following officers from among the members: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer

The organisation shall have the power to elect a management committee to further the objectives of the organisation. The organisation shall take all actions, consistent with the law, to further the objectives of the organisation. Decisions to act shall be made by a simple majority of those attending the meeting.

5. Finance

The organisation shall have the power to raise funds to further the objectives of the organisation. The organisation shall have the power to open a bank account and authorise the treasurer to operate it on behalf of the organisation. Three members will be appointed by the organisation to act as signatories in financial transactions on behalf of the organisation. Two signatures out of three will be required on all transactions. No payment shall be paid to any member of the organisation except to reimburse approved expenses (for which a receipt will be given) reasonably incurred on behalf of the organisation. Upon dissolution of the organisation, any remaining funds shall be spent for the benefit of the community in Bearwood.

The organisation shall maintain accounts which will be inspected annually by an independent competent person. The organisation shall hold an AGM to report on the year’s activity and present the annual accounts.

6. Quorum

The quorum for meetings of the organisation shall be five of the local residents.
